Overview

Southern Cancer Center is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Part-Time Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dedicated oncology team. Responsibilities

General Nursing Duties

  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote continuity of care in accordance with established standards.
  • Assess patient health status through interviews and medical history reviews.
  • Document nursing assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
  • Report assessment findings and relevant data (labs, imaging, psychosocial) to the provider.
  • Educate patients and families, providing psychosocial support and instructional materials.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Therapy Administration

  • Prepare and administer therapies under physician supervision.
  • Administer medications and blood products accurately (correct drug, dose, route, time, and technique).
  • Ensure pre-authorizations and consent forms are completed before therapy administration.
  • Modify doses based on assessments, lab results, and treatment protocols in consultation with physicians.

Clinical Procedures

  • Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line devices.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatments.
  • Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and ensure proper charge capture.

Work Environment & Safety

  • Restock supplies and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Follow OSHA guidelines for handling hazardous materials and infection control.
  • Maintain and disinfect equipment per quality control standards.

Patient Care Coordination

  • Manage medication refill requests and document in patient charts.
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures.
  • Maintain efficient patient flow in exam rooms.
  • Schedule consultations, tests, referrals, and follow-up appointments.
  • Triage patient phone calls and document relevant information.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary communication and connect patients with community resources.

Collaboration & Development

  • Support clinical research efforts.
  • Act as a resource for LPNs/LVNs and medical assistants.
  • Provide nursing coverage at satellite offices as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and oncology education.

Specialty-Specific Responsibilities

Infusion RN

Infusion RN

  • Program and instruct patients/caregivers on portable infusion pumps.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of pump maintenance, cleaning, and documentation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education/Training: Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
  • Licensure: Current RN license and registration with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; must meet continuing education requirements.
  • Experience: 0–3 years of nursing experience; oncology experience preferred.

Working Conditions

      • Environment: Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, radiation, and other conditions common in oncology settings.
      • Physical Requirements:
        • Full range of body motion, including lifting patients and equipment (up to 40 lbs).
        • Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
        • Standing and walking for extended periods.
